Q: Is This Massage?
A: No. It’s more of a muscle therapy. MMN releases chronically tight, rigid tissue and restores the body to its natural alignment. The goal is to change the structure of the body and improve the function.
Q: Is It Like Physical Therapy?
A: No. MMN’s focus is on lengthening and loosening tight, contracted, rigid tissue by applying specific pressure to the tissue. The goal is to eliminate chronic tension induced pain. Physical Therapy in general, focuses on building strength in tissue and uses ultrasound and stretching.
Q: Is It Like Chiropractic Treatments?
A: No. We do not do bone adjustments and we follow the laws of anatomy and physiology, which state that muscles move the bones of the body, not the other way around. When we return the muscle tone to normal function, the bones fall into alignment. No bone adjustments are needed and the structural changes to the body result in more long-term change.
Q: Is It Like Rolfing?
A: No, there are no preset sessions. MMN follows specific treatment protocols, which enable us to customize each treatment to the client’s specific needs. The focus of the work is on locating and treating the source of the pain or dysfunction.
We see that if you loosen and release chronically tight tissue, the body returns to its natural structural alignment. Rolfing in general, believes in MOVING tissue to improve structural alignment. We believe our methods are longer lasting and much easier to apply.
Q: Does It Hurt?
A: It depends on your muscle tone. If the tissue is soft and supple, then there is never any pain. If the tissue is tight and rigid, then it will be tender to the touch until it releases. Once it releases, it will not be tender. We only treat tissue one layer at a time. Never using force to penetrate tissue. We wait for each layer to release before going deeper.
